Uruguay's public procurement

The Intendencias, per head

How much each departmental government spends on public procurement, and how much that is per resident. The per-person figure evens out Montevideo's size and shows who spends well above or below the national line.

Read the investigation: Intendencia de Montevideo

How it's calculated

We sum the purchases each Intendencia publishes on Compras Estatales (amount in pesos, normalised). Per-capita spend divides that total by the department's population.

The view opens on the latest full year and compares each department against the year before. The running year is still partial, so it's never the default; pick "All-time" for the cumulative total.

Population: INE — Censo 2023, 2023 Census.

1 records with impossible amounts (source quantity errors) are excluded so they don't distort the sums; the rest is exactly as the State publishes it.

Mind the coverage: some Intendencias publish little or nothing on Compras Estatales, so a low per-capita figure can mean under-reporting, not thrift. Lavalleja and Soriano have no priced purchases and don't appear.
